Bright and vivid blue fruit character, high in acidity but delivered as juice and lift, this has lovely cocoa bean and smoked earth notes as it builds. A classically balanced if austere Ormes. 32hl/h yields, 3.61 pH. 45% new oak for ageing.
The 2024 Ormes de Pez has a crisp, tensile bouquet with black olive tapenade infusing black fruit, fine delineation and nicely integrated oak. The medium-bodied palate showcases grainy tannins and a core of black fruit laced with graphite and tobacco, leading to a slightly smudged finish that lacks the complexity of the 2022. Still, this is a decent Saint-Estèphe.
Bright, and zesty on the palate, the medium-bodied wine is loaded with juicy, peppery currants, and a refreshing, spearmint note that adds to to finish. The wine is a blend of 48% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. 13% ABV.
About the producer

The Cazes family – owners of Lynch-Bages – added this Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois estate to their portfolio in 1940, just one year after they purchased Lynch-Bages. The property comprises 32 hectares of vines in the north of the appellation, close to the village of Pez.
