2024 Cote de Baleau

Tasting Notes
Some austere tugging on the tannic frame from the opening beats, soft floral waves open out through the palate. This is a medium-weight savoury wine, with balance and charm, and attractive depths of bitter chocolate and fennel. Good appellation signature, on the savoury side.

The 2024 Cote de Baleau is soft and plummy, with good forward fruit and solid balance, all in the understated style of the year. Black cherry, plum, new leather, licorice and chocolate are nicely pushed forward. In 2024, most of the blend is from parcels planted on clay and limestone, while those on gravel were left out. Élevage will be critical, especially in softening the tannins. Tasted two times.
Black raspberries, flowers, and cherries create the main character here. Light/medium-bodied, vibrant, and energetic, the palate is quite tense, with lift, to the red fruits in the chalky, finish. This should be quite a pleasure to enjoy on release, and over the next 10 years. The wine blends 95% Merlot, with 5% Cabernet Franc, 13.5% ABV.
Good depth of blackcurrants and dark chocolate. Juicy and chewy with medium to full body and a tight, vertical finish.
