The 2024 Clos René is derived from the estate's better terroirs, as much of the lower-lying parcels were hailed. Offering up aromas of sweet cherries, dark berries and licorice, it's medium-bodied, with powdery tannins and surprising richness for the vintage.
This is in a sector of Pomerol that saw quite a bit of hail, so it's pretty impressive to see Clos Rene delivering a wine with plenty of colour, and sweet ruby fruit, touches of grilled cedar and coffee bean on the finish, a good job in a tough year. Grape blend given is as planted, not vintage.
The 2024 Clos René has an intense bouquet with touches of dark chocolate infusing the black fruit aromas. Its oak is not quite simpatico with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins and a little more oak than previous recent vintages. It still feels fresh on the finish, even if lacking the complexity of a top-flight Clos René.
