FINE+RARE, Apr 2025

Deep purple in colour, this year’s Certan de May is concentrated and rich. On the nose there’s ample red fruit that has a fabulous, lifted quality right from the outset. The palate is characterised by impressive freshness that runs right through the palate, with gentle acidity and soft, chalky tannins that slowly melt away on the finish. This charming and approachable 2024 will offer drinking pleasure in its youth. Aged in 70% new oak. Blend: 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2024 Certan de May offers up a minty bouquet of cherries, berries and tobacco leaf, followed by a medium-bodied, fleshy palate that's fine-boned and discreetly herbal.

The 2024 Certan de May was picked 23 September to 6 October and is aged in 80% new oak. It has a strange nose that is missing some freshness. Likewise, the palate is framed by dry, grainy tannins that do not feel enmeshed with the sweet 'n' sour fruit. There's a dash of spice toward the attenuated finish, but overall, it is missing cohesion, finesse and harmony.
