Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Apr 2025

Deep and full of dark, almost currant-like, fruit, the nose of the 2024 Ch. Bourgneuf currently shows the sweetness of its barrels (35% new here), but this will integrate with time. The palate is smooth and plush, on the more fuller-bodied style for the year, yet with a line of mouth-watering acidity, layers of bright raspberry fruit and a savoury edge to the finish. Blend: 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc

Ripe black cherries, blackberries, sappy herbs, and crushed stone notes all emerge from the 2024 Château Bourgneuf, a medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, firmer, more chewy effort in the vintage. Vinified all in concrete tanks and aging in 35% new oak (with the balance in one- to two-year-old oak), it's going to benefit from a year or two of bottle age to gain some elegance. Tasted twice.

The 2024 Bourgneuf continues this estate's upward trajectory, standing out for its usual depth and concentration in this vintage. Aromas of cherries, raspberries and minty cassis preface a medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered palate that's rich and creamy, with broad structural shoulders and a lively, penetrating finish. Once again, the quality of Bourgneuf's 2024 underlines this estate's proximity to Trotanoy (one block actually reaches the outbuildings of Trotanoy).
