Score 92/100 · Drink 2020-2040, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Mar 2020

In the middle of the Axpoint and cultivated on pure loess, the 2018 Ried Hochrain Riesling Smaragd combines the fruit picked on September 18 and October 30. The wine opens with a spicy, elegant and even coolish bouquet of ripe and elegant stone fruits. Lush and round, this is a rather soft but fine and balanced Riesling with the charm of Veltliner but the piquancy and grip of Riesling. If you are not ready for a very pure Riesling, this is the one to start with. Tasted at the domain in September 2019.

Spicy nose and breadth on the palate. Rather loose, even slightly dilute, on the palate. (JR)
