Tasting notes
Last tasted in June 2016 from tank (after it had spent some time in cask), this opens with a heady display of ripe white peach and muskmelon, but also suggestions of fresh lime that then return on the palate to convey an exhilarating sense of animation, tension and refreshment despite the wine’s textural richness and generous ripeness. Stony and ashen notes, along with piquant lime peel, lend intrigue and a slightly austere note to the strikingly gripping finish, while suggestions of salt-crusted toasted shrimp shell prompt uncontrollable salivation.

The 2015 Riesling Smaragd Loibner Steinertal offers a very coolish and refreshing bouquet of ripe white fruits. Round, dense and elegant on the palate this is a full-bodied, concentrated, grippy and firmly structured Riesling with a characterizing phenolic grip. Still shy, this wine needs a few years to tell its story.
