Tasting notes
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Vogelzang Vineyard is a dense, powerful wine. The warm year has baked out some of the Happy Canyon signatures, but there is plenty of fruit intensity in their place. Succulent dark cherry, plum, lavender and dried herbs all meld together in this deep, resonant Cabernet Sauvignon.

Coming from a great vineyard in the Happy Canyon region of Santa Barbara, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Vogelzang Vineyard shows a more elegant, medium-bodied, pretty and graceful style to go with attractive notes of ripe cherries, leafy herbs, and spring flowers. It’s not massive, but I love its overall balance, it has fine tannins, and outstanding purity. I suspect it will have 10-15 years of longevity as well. I still find the 2020s to be slightly hit-or-miss from this reference point producer in the Central Coast, but the good news is that the 2021s appear to be a step up as well as more consistent.
