Open-knit and quite engaging with light peppery scents, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has some clear stem addition and is more tertiary in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Well-balanced, with a core of mineral-rich red fruit, this is an elegant Lavaux that fans out beautifully toward the finish whilst retaining plenty of freshness and tension Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Notes of dark berries, cassis and black truffle, complemented by hints of loamy soil, licorice and spices, preface Duroché's 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes, a full-bodied, ample and seamless wine that's fleshy and refined, framed by melting tannins and lively acids. While it's an undeniably powerful wine, it's also even more elegant than I perceived in barrel.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has a very intense, floral bouquet that seems to revel in the warmer growing season (this vineyard is advantaged by its cooler microclimate). Enticing potpourri scents commingle with dark berry fruit and orange pith, all beautifully delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. This is one of Pierre Duroché’s most sensual offerings this vintage, delivering real intensity on the sapid finish. It is a step up from the regular cuvée, and it should give 20+ years of drinking pleasure. An ethereal Premier Cru.
