Tasting notes
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon SJ Ranch Vineyard is a riper style than some of the other Cabernets in the Aperture lineup this year, made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a vibrant ruby-purple color and aromas of dark plums, fruitcake and baked berries accented by Chinese five spice, chocolate, graphite, dried herbs and floral nuances. The full-bodied palate is firmly framed and finely grainy, with good freshness and a very long finish.

All varietal, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon SJ Ranch comes from a site in the Alexander Valley and was brought up in 70% new French oak. Another gorgeous 2017 from Katz, it offers classic crème de cassis, spicy oak, cedar pencil, and graphite aromas and flavors. Deep, full-bodied, and powerful on the palate, with ripe tannins, it can be enjoyed today in a youthful sense, yet should cruise in cold cellars for two decades or more.
