Ramonet's 1985 Montrachet Grand Cru is remarkable, offering up exquisite aromas of honeyed orchard fruit, peach, nutmeg, buttered toast and smoke, followed by a full-bodied, broad-shouldered palate of striking density and concentration, concluding with a long, resonant finish. A masterpiece of controlled power, it's one of the highlights of what was a glorious decade for this domaine.

This is one of those rare wines that is already 20 years old yet it is every bit as good as the same wine in magnum. The note from magnum is: Phenomenally complex and powerful aromas introduce fresh, intense and dense flavors of incredible depth and breed plus they possess simply stunning length. This is so good that it's frankly difficult to describe the sheer breadth of expression and the overall personality here is one of regal elegance it is reference standard Montrachet. Mostly consistent notes though one recent bottle, while certainly good, did not hit the highlights described above.
