The 2019 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard is deeper and darker than most of the wines Ross Cobb makes from Coastlands. Black cherry, spice, leather, tobacco, incense and dried flowers meld together. This brooding, inward Pinot is quite the powerhouse. This really opens well with aeration, but I wouldn't plan on touching a bottle anytime soon.
Sporting a jeweled ruby color, the 2019 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard offers terrific purity in its notes of framboise, fresh rosemary, and black pepper. Medium-bodied, it has a fantastically refined, graceful mineral texture, elegant tannins, and fresh acidity without being austere. This is an outstanding and graceful wine. Drink 2023-2038. Ross Cobb and his parents founded his eponymous winery in 2001, with the original parcels planted by his mother Diane in 1989. With a focus on single-vineyard Pinot Noir offerings, he also produces high-quality Riesling and Chardonnay. Marking the 21st vintage for the estate, followers of his wines will notice that he’s just updated the wine labels for the first time.
Medium ruby, the 2019 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch opens with pomegranate, rhubarb and raspberry preserves accented by tones of cinnamon, blood orange, dried sage, potpourri and bitters, offering more nuance with each return to the glass. The palate surprises with its sheer intensity of fruit, supported by ubiquitous, sandy tannins and seamless acidity, finishing long and spicy.
