The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St Jacques Vieilles Vignes comes from 0.30-hectares of the oldest vines planted in 1923, and readers should note that the three barrels will be sold to their Hong Kong importer. Now you know where to go! Deeper in color than the regular bottling, it has an intense bouquet that is very well defined, offering dark cherry, boysenberry and blackcurrant scents that also possess a subtle floral note. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp and very pure black, mineral-rich fruit, nicely structured with tangible tension right towards the sustained, precise finish. All I can say is, lucky people in Hong Kong.
