The 2009 Les Climats du Coeur Gevery-Chambertin 1er Cru is racy, pliant and super-expressive. A classic and highly representative wine for the year, the Gevery-Chambertin captures the pure radiance and generosity of the year. The Gevrey was made by Domaine Dujac and Maison Faiveley.

(from late-picked grapes from several Gevrey premier crus) Good dark red. Very ripe aromas of cherry liqueur and menthol, with a hint of chocolate. Fat, sweet and utterly silky, with dark fruit, coffee and gibier flavors given lift by a note of menthol. Lush, suave, rich and very long, given shape by vinification with 55% whole clusters. Les Climats du Coeur is a local charity project involving four premier crus bottlings-Gevrey, Vosne-Romanee, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet-vinified by top winemakers from fruit donated by local growers. Jeremy Seysses directed the vinification of this Gevrey and I tasted the wine in his cellar. Limited quantities of the four wines will be sold as a set, all in magnums.
Made for charity – a big vintage and they wanted to do something for Burgundy, instead of giving big bottles round the world they all gave lots of grapes. I see six casks. Made by Dujac and Faiveley. Mid crimson. Rich and savoury on nose. Sweet and round and no shortage of effort – perhaps a little readier than some cuvées but definitely a fine wine, with great length. (JR)
