Tasting notes
Intensely yellow in color and rich on the aromatic nose, Wegeler's re-released 2013 Rothenberg GG is a firm classic from a rather rainy vintage. I have always appreciated this wine, which is elegant and lush on the palate and lifted by refined acidity and stimulating savoriness that gives a remarkably long and aromatic, structural and stimulating finish with candied fruit and bitter flavors (probably due to a certain percentage of botrytis). This is a superb Riesling GG to be enjoyed today and over the next decade or so. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in September 2023.

The citrus colored 2013 Geisenheim Rothenberg Riesling GG is a full-bodied, powerful but unbalanced wine with ripe aromas on the nose (citrus flavors, green apples) and a searing, almost painful acidity on the tongue. The finish is quite loud, alcoholic and drying due to unripe phenolics but the wine still has a certain elegance and finesse.
