(15.2% alcohol) Saturated bright medium ruby. Decadent aromas of plum, bitter chocolate and minerals. Concentrated, pliant and bright, with an exotic, showy character no doubt due in part to the very old vines. Wonderfully full, creamy wine with superb sweetness but also excellent underlying structure. This big boy builds nicely on the back end and should be even better for a few years of bottle aging. In theory, this should be the top Bramare malbec based on age of vines.

The 2008 Bramare Malbec Marchiori Vineyard is a more saturated color with the nose favoring the black fruit side of the spectrum. Dense, layered, and rich, it conceals enough tannin to evolve for 3-5 years and will deliver prime drinking through 2023. Vina Cobos is a partnership between Paul Hobbs, Andrea Marchiori, and Luis Barraud. The above wines were tasted as barrel samples in February, 2009 during my trip to Mendoza.
