Tasting notes
Deep garnet colored, the 2009 Tor Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Clone 6 (from E Block in Beckstoffer To Kalon) gives a seriously meaty nose of chargrill and aged beef with a core of preserved plums, blackcurrant cordial, prunes and black olives plus wafts of dried plums and Indian spices. Full-bodied, rich and opulent in the mouth, it has beautifully powdery tannins and wonderful freshness with a very long, multi-layered finish. Classic To Kalon! 175 cases were made.

Full medium ruby. Inviting aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice, pungent graphite minerality and baking spices, plus a hint of floral lift. Sweet and suave but savory and penetrating as well, offering a rare combination of seamless texture with strong acidity and thrust. Wonderfully dense yet light on its feet, this beauty is a superb example of its vintage. The firm, noble tannins spread out to saturate the palate without leaving any dryness, and the finish delivers subtle rising length and lift. Serious and classic--and still short of its peak.
A bit less deeply colored than the Clone 4 bottling. More aromatic and Burgundian on the nose, offering scents of redcurrant and dusty black cherry. Sweet and spicy but more backward than the Clone 4, showing a youthfully medicinal character to its black cherry and licorice flavors. Finishes with chewy, building tannins and a slight youthful dryness. Here's a 2009 that really begs for at least a couple years of cellaring.
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Clone 6 is fabulous. Dark red cherries, menthol, graphite and spices are some of the nuances that emerge from this virile, layered wine. The Clone 6 is majestic in its expressive layers of fruit and huge, building finish. This intense, rich Cabernet will require patience. It is totally different in personality and character than the Clone 337 and the other wines in this flight.
