Tasting notes
Saturated deep red. Brooding but expressive aromas of plum, iron, pepper and chocolate, conveying a strong impression of soil character. Sweet, dense and extremely deep, with great energy in the mouth. This has explosive flavors of red fruits, spices, iron and earth. Finishes with terrific verve and palate-staining length. A great bottle of Pommard that should gain in complexity for the next 10 to 15 years. Montille originally planned to bottle this in February but eventually waited until June.

(still a bit reduced following the end of the secondary fermentation in September) Saturated ruby-red. Very deep, broad nose hints at black raspberry, smoke, spices and chocolate. Large-scaled and impressively sweet, with ripe, powerful fruit flavors complicated by notes of iron, leather and minerals. Another spectacular vehicle for communicating site character. I can't remember an earlier vintage of this wine that was so mouthfilling from the start, without any loss of shape or vibrancy. Finishes with big, dusty tannins and outstanding persistence. I thought of this sample as a perfectly updated version of a great old style of Burgundy. Offers exciting potential. This cuvee was to remain in barrel until February, while the three wines that were already in tank in November were slated for January bottling.
