(full malo): Aromas of ripe pear, lemon zest and crushed stone lifted by a lavender note. Suave and energetic, with lemon, pear drop and floral flavors energized by powerful minerality. Finishes smooth, very broad and very young, relying more on its minerality than on its acidity for structure and grip. Will this wine shut down in the bottle?

The 2013 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a much more reserved bouquet than the Bâtard-Montrachet ’13 at this point, but beautifully defined and regal. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, razor-sharp in the mouth and real “fire” on the finish without losing its head. Very long on the aftertaste, this is a mighty fine Chevalier that ranks alongside the best this vintage.
Two small barrels, 350 litres. PY buys by multiples of 18 cases of fruit to make his 350 litres. Very calcaire. Lovely texture and liveliness, a real ballerina. Beautiful structure. Not much on the nose today. Gorgeous though, and very finely etched. (JR)
