Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from Méo-Camuzet is a wine that I needed to be convinced about when I tasted it from barrel, and here in bottle it does nothing to change that view. It has a broody nose with dark berry fruit, cola and dried herbs that feels a little stolid. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet and sour red fruit, stringy tannin and a slightly bitter finish. There is good weight and concentration here, but it needs more grace and sophistication. I might afford it another year and see what happens. Tasted September 2017.

Good medium red. Tight, pure aromas of dark raspberry, black cherry, licorice and minerals. Rather compact in the early going, showing little easy sweetness to the flavors of dark fruits, licorice, crushed rock and wild herbs accented by black pepper. Méo told me that this wine was previously more approachable than the Boudots but today it's in a shell. Will extended bottle aging bring more sweetness?
Sweet and perfumed. Very charming and pretty with a great fan of fruit flavours. Energetic and well balanced. (JR)
