The Amalia Cascina in Langa 2019 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte (with 3,000 bottles released) has a soft delivery that starts off with ripe cherry and redcurrant, but then veers toward spice, crushed stone and blue flower. The floral notes emerge with more intensity in time. I also get a hint of rosemary essence or eucalyptus oil. The vines were planted in 1982 on sandy soils at a cool 400 meters above sea level.

Monforte d’Alba. Mid ruby. Concentrated sour-cherry fruit with spicy, stalky notes. Round, supple fruit with crunchy tannins. Can be approached now. (WS)
