Leafy, herby nose with attractive soy and anise character. Dry, fibrous, chunky tannins. Built to last, but there is lots of drinking pleasure even now. (RH)

An unpretentious, succulent red, the 2017 Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière bursts with exuberant aromas of cherries, loamy soil and a subtle hint of pencil lead. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and expressive, with youthfully chewy tannins and a generous core of fruit. Elsa Matrot contends that this site performs well in vintages that yield abundant juice, and her 2017 is certainly persuasive.
