Tasting notes
The 2017 Traiser Bastei Riesling GG is coolish, precise and flinty yet also ripe and dense on the even slightly herbal nose. Juicy, piquant and elegant on the palate, this is a rich yet elegant, vital and refined, even tensioned Bastei. Tasted in December 2020.

The nose evokes damp stone, struck flint, lime peel, peach kernel, crushed coriander seed and a Darjeeling-like amalgam of herbal nuances. The firm, full palate is correspondingly complex and piquant. Tongue-tingling in its vibrancy, the formidably sustained finish conveys impressions of peach fuzz and crushed stone against a background of persistent juiciness.
Very well defined aromas of green mangoes, white nectarines and lime juice intermingle with sweet, fragrant spices and concentrated, white-floral perfume. Alluring. The palate has a strikingly juicy, fleshy and smoothly delivered feel. Melded and seamless, this is suave and silky with discreet acidity. Very drinkable now, yet this will hold for a decade or more in bottle.
