The 2020 Riesling Zinnkopeflé Grand Cru is the current release from this site that is a mix of Triassic sandstone at the foot and Triassic limestone further up. The lift of dried hayflower aligned to dried lemon peel on the nose suggests some evolution. The same citrusy brightness suffuses the fluid palate that has already turned that textural corner toward smoothness. This is concentrated, with an edge of clove, dried lemon and stone fruit on the palate. The 2020 is serene and pithy, with zesty length and more of that spice. (Bone-dry)

The 2020 Riesling Clos Saint Landelin is already open and shows exquisitely ripe tart apple notes. A gorgeous aromatic overtone of apple and yarrow carries over to the palate, where a super-smooth, concentrated palate projects generosity without any fatness. The texture has a notion of citrus pith and chalkiness. A lovely and taut Riesling for such a hot year with a lasting finish with a distinct trace of wet limestone. (Bone-dry)

Full bottle 1,347 g. Certified organic and biodynamic. The Murés' 12-ha monopole in Rouffach at the southern end of the grand cru Vorbourg. Vines are 49 years old. Picked 11 September at a yield of 47 hl/ha. RS 3.8 g/l, TA 8 g/l. Rich, intense nose with light smokiness and massive extract all cocooned in the corset of acidity and light tannin. Massive ageing potential and this is likely to become wonderfully complex with time in bottle. Just the sort of wine you hope to find in Alsace. Great structure and persistence. Tastes bone dry. Just a kick of dried apple peel on the finish but lots of juiciness on the way there. (JR)

Welcome to the Riesling deep end. Not dramatic, but really profound, with massive structure. This is all wrapped in very refined mirabelle and fresh honeycomb aromas. Great textural complexity and chalky minerality. Flows so gracefully over the palate, gliding off into the distance. A mix of vines planted just after 1945 and young vines from a massal selection. Basket-pressed. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
