Bottled. First vintage for this joint father-and-son wine. 60% Chardonnay (barrel fermented in Dageneau 300-litre barrels previously used for Sauvignon Blanc, which may affect the Chardonnay, thinks Felix), 40% Pinot Blanc (part barrel-fermented), the former made by Felix Keller, the latter by Klaus Peter Keller. Felix thought the Chardonnay wasn’t good enough on its own for a Reserve wine, hence the blend. Creamy aroma of both melon and apple fruit and a gentle creaminess, light spice. Some wild-herb freshness, too. On the palate, rich, dry but full in the mouth, really creamy in texture but shot through by the fresh and bright fruit flavours. I’d be hard-pressed to identify the varieties if I had been served this blind as they are completely meshed. More spice as it opens in the glass. The creamy texture is a perfect foil to the crunchy fruit. (JH)
