Coming from a single lieu-dit, the 2020 Côte Rôtie Le Champon is deep purple and has a slightly darker, more mineral-laced profile, with beautiful black and blue fruits, notes of salted meat, iron, and spring flowers, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. It can be drunk today yet deserves 3-5 years of bottle age.

Deep, shimmering ruby. Intensely perfumed, mineral-accented red and blue fruit liqueur and floral pastille scents take on incense and exotic spice nuances with air. Done in a concentrated yet energetic style, offering expansive, appealingly sweet cherry, black raspberry, licorice and candied violet flavors that are braced by an undercurrent of juicy acidity. Shows superb clarity and mineral cut on the wonderfully long, sharply focused finish, which is framed by polished, steadily building tannins.
From two parcels, one east facing planted on sandy and limey soils, the other west facing on the plain. Aged for two years in 20–25% new oak. Cask sample. Lively nose, bursting with fruit – lavender and a lick of subtle oak. Has great acidity and fine chalky tannins. A slight chewiness and a richness to the fruit as well. Needs some time to come together. (AC)
