Score 87/100 · Drink 2000-2010, Robert Parker, Aug 1995

I found Jayer-Gilles' 1993s to be mixed in quality. The overall style is one of low PHs, tart, high acids, and tough tannin. In the finest wines there is enough concentration of ripe fruit to balance out the structural components. For example, the Nuits St.-Georges Les Hauts Poirets offers an impressive dark ruby/purple color, a tight nose that with coaxing reveals ripe black fruit scents, a concentrated, medium-bodied attack, fine intensity, and gobs of tannin in the structured, tart finish. Give it 5-6 years of cellaring; it should keep for 10-15 years. Patience will be a virtue for Jayer's 1993s. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083
