The 2012 Virginie de Valandraud Blanc is bright, crystalline and focused, with lovely floral and citrus-inflected notes and a personality that emphasizes freshness. The blend is 50% Semillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sauvignon Gris. This is a gorgeous white to drink over the next few years.

Far more interesting is the more honeyed, hazelnut and orange-scented and flavored 2012 Virginie de Valandraud. It cuts a bigger swath across the palate and reveals more depth and richness. Enjoy both wines over the next 5-6 years.

50% is barrel fermented but no new oak. Very pale lemon. Fine ripe citrus with the merest hint of pineapple. Attractive slight grip and freshness. Bright and very fresh. (JH)
