Tasting notes
The 2022 Côte Rôtie La Sybarine would be a terrific introduction to the quality, elegance, and sheer class of the wines that consistently come from this address. Offering perfumed red and black fruits as well as some spicy, loamy earth and savory floral notes, it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, a soft, layered mouthfeel, and sweet tannins. Aged in neutral French oak barrels for 16-18 months, it's drinking beautifully today, yet there's no reason it shouldn't evolve gracefully over the coming decade or more. Drink 2025-2037. Located in Ampuis, Domaine Garon continues its steady rise under the leadership of brothers Kévin and Fabien Garon, who have gradually taken over the day-to-day operations since joining the estate in 2003. Farming is sustainable, and winemaking remains largely traditional, with small amounts of whole cluster fermentation, long macerations, and élevage in 20-25% new French oak for approximately 18 months. Bottling occurs without fining or filtration. The range includes several Côte Rôtie cuvées, highlighted by the elegant, complex Lancement, the structured, powerful Les Rochins, and the more accessible La Sybarine, along with an expanding lineup of whites from Condrieu, Saint Joseph, and Hermitage.

The fleshy 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Sybarine unwinds with dried meat, black plum, licorice and cherry cola aromas. Medium-bodied at most, 2022 carries vivid freshness amidst moderate flavor concentration, winding down with a clean yet fairly clipped finish. Enjoy this over the next four years.
