From the southern part of Burgundy, the 2015 Maranges Fussiere 1 Er Cru, mostly destemmed and brought up in older barrels, is perfect for readers looking for a rock-solid value in red Burgundy. It offers plenty of smoky black cherries, scorched earth, and graphite nuances, medium-bodied richness, excellent freshness, and fine tannin, as well as integrated, yet certainly present acidity. Possessing a vibrant, energetic style, it’s going to keep nicely for 7-8 years.

Organic. Light to mid crimson. Light notes of smoke and pepper as well as dusty, dark-red fruit. Finely textured by the dry tannins and fresh acidity. Modest but satisfying. (JH)
