Dark fruit, leather and spices inform the supple, creamy finish. This is already fabulous; the only question is how much it might improve in the coming years. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017. La Maialina is my most exciting discovery in Tuscany so far this year. Consulting oenologist Attilio Pagli buys wines in bulk from one of Tuscany’s most elite properties, then raises and bottles them in a separate facility. I was blown away by what I tasted.
