Score 87/100 · Drink 2013-2017, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2013

The 2009 Barolo Serralunga d'Alba is a tasty, entry-level offering. Dark red cherries, spices, licorice and tobacco all flesh out in a supple, inviting Barolo that can be enjoyed now and over the next handful of years. The tannins are nicely balanced, but the super-ripe personality of the year is impossible to escape.

Commune of Serralunga. Concentrated, almost dark ruby and still quite youthful looking. Savoury sweet with clinging tannins and succulent strawberry fruit on the finish. Still young but already delicious. (WS)
