Tasting notes
Il Macchione's 2009 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano makes a great entry to the palate with fresh crispness and bright berry nuances. This wine feels younger than it really is. There are some evolved notes of dried cherry, cola and licorice that add more complexity and elegance. The mouthfeel is sharp, focused and direct.

Mid ruby with orange-tinged rim. Fine and unobtrusive nose and a little closed. Hints of earth. Very elegant and supple palate, with ongoing acidity. Just the slightest hint of tobacco, but otherwise pretty subdued. Fine, grainy tannins. Elegant and very young. (WS)
Barrel sample. 100% Prugnolo Gentile. Dark, concentrated ruby. Hints of herb liqueur and fruit cake. Same sweet opulence on the palate, and big tannin. A bit rustic, really. (WS)
