Score 91/100 · Drink 2015-2025, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Aug 2013

The 2008 Philip is dedicated to another family ancestor, Philip Mazzei (1730-1816). It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from both the Fonterutoli estate in Castellina in Chianti and the Belguardo estate in Maremma. Its flavor profile represents the complete antithesis of the delicate and feminine Mix36. Instead, Philip is a bold and brawny wine with New World tasting points: Exotic spice and ripe fruit are principal players. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. The exciting news from Castello di Fonterutoli is the addition of a new wine, the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, located above “Riserva” under the revised guidelines of the Chianti Classico denomination.
