More serious and concentrated, with a firmer texture and more noticeable acidity (even though they’re the same on paper), the 2009 Zaca Mesa Syrah Eight Barrel is 100% Syrah and was aged for 16 months in 62% new French oak. Vibrant ruby and borderline opaque in color, it offers a knockout bouquet of ripe black cherries, wood smoke, roasted meats, licorice, and dusty mineral. This flows to a medium to full-bodied, concentrated Syrah that has a fresh, clean texture, notable purity, and a chewy, broad finish. Enjoy it over the coming 7-8 years.
