Tasting notes
(95% cabernet and 5% syrah) Good deep ruby. Medicinal black cherry and licorice on the nose. A bit youthfully brutal on the palate, but with good ripeness to the black fruit and spice flavors. This boasts a firm structure and finishes with very good length and lift.

The 2005 Back 40, which is now in bottle, and represents 1,400 cases of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (slightly different than the barrel sample blend I tasted last year). It exhibits a chocolatey, black currant nose with some hints of roasted coffee, earth, spice, and barrique. The wine shows medium to full body, loads of fruit, good ripeness, and an almost Bordeaux-like structure. This wine, which I compared to a St.-Estephe last year, is still reminiscent of a high-class Medoc. Give it two or so years of cellaring and drink it over the following 15+ years. Tel.
