The 2019 SawBones is a yummy blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Syrah, 7% Petit Verdot and 6% Graciano with a medium ruby color and alluring scents of melted chocolate, Morello cherries, aniseed, pipe tobacco, chargrill and sweet spices. The palate is smooth and juicy with layered, lifted, spicy fruits and a long finish with bursts of freshness.

The 2019 Sawbones looks to be a step up over the 2018 and has lots of black raspberry and cassis fruits as well as spicy, floral nuances. Based on 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Syrah, 7% Petit Verdot, and the rest Graciano, it’s rich, textured, full-bodied, and balanced. Winemaker Joshua Harp, along with top Napa consultant Tony Biagi, continues to go from strength to strength and it seems as if every vintage is the finest to date. The 2018s reviewed for this report are brilliant (I reviewed some 2018s last year as well) and the 2019s might be a step up. No shrinking violets, these are big, rich wines, yet the balance is spot on, the wines show remarkable purity of fruit, and I’d certainly be happy to drink any of them.
