Score 85+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2004

Good full, bright red. Very oaky aromas of exotic spices; with aeration, some fresher black fruit flavors emerged. Sweet but a bit pinched, with some unabsorbed acids giving the wine grip but also a greenness. Has verve but finishes rather rigid, with tarry and herbal nuances. This showed more fruit with aeration, but only time will tell if it will become more pliant. Also tasted: 2001 Southern Oregon Cuvee, 2001 Anden Vineyard Oregon, 2001 Maresh Vineyard-Loie's Block Oregon, 2001 Jacob-Hart Vineyard Oregon.
