Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a small amount of Cabernet Franc. Smells very ripe and sweet – almost jammy! Translucent ruby. Good mouthful of ripe berries and dry, tobacco-leaf tannins. Firm, fresh, with a tinge of green-bell-pepper bitterness. Fine and proper. (TC)

The 2014 Cruzeau, part of the Vignobles Andre Lurton portfolio, offers attractive cigar-box infused brambly red berry fruit on the nose, classic in style but remembering that there has to be some fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a crisp line of acidity, a little foursquare perhaps, but there is more than enough freshness and vitality on the tobacco-stained finish. Just a lovely classic Pessac-Léognan.
An exuberant, powerful wine, the 2014 de Cruzeau offers lovely depth and complexity at this level. Dark red stone fruits, savory herbs and dried flowers are all laced together effortlessly. I really like the wine's overall balance and personality. Best of all, the Cruzeau should be a terrific value. This is a strong showing from proprietor André Lurton.
Pretty severe – no sweet fruit – but correct and fresh. Really tingling on the finish. Just falls away a little on the end. (JR)
