Score 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Nov 2006

Full, bright ruby. Captivating aromas of raspberry, mulberry, tobacco, musky earth and smoky oak show a liqueur-like ripeness. Sweet, supple and seamless, with noteworthy concentration of flavor. This broadens impressively toward the back and really expands on the rich, sweet aftertaste. This youthful wine is already satisfying but appears to be built to evolve in bottle for at least eight to ten years.

The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard displays a deep, spicy nose of cassis, violets, and blackberries. A suave, medium to full-bodied wine, it seductively coats the taster’s palate with layers of blackberry liqueur, cassis, flowers, and black cherries. Loaded with perfectly ripe tannin, this gem goes after both the intellectual and the corporal desires of its taster. Projected maturity: now-2020. Tel. (425) 481-5502; www.januikwinery.com
