Tasting notes
Kalin must be the last to release its 1990 Chardonnays ... and no wonder. The 1990 Chardonnay Cuvee W from Livermore possesses a surprisingly evolved medium gold color. An exotic, incense-like, gravelly nose soars from the glass. It is followed by a wine with phenomenal extract, a honeyed, intense richness, layers of flavor, and an extremely dry, full-bodied finish. This is one of the most distinctive Chardonnays I have tasted from Kalin. Although the color suggests maturity, the impression in the mouth is of a wine that will last for a decade or more. It is scheduled for release on September 1st. The 1990 Chardonnays are unlike any other from California, so if you are looking for tooty-fruity, bubble gum aromas and lavish quantities of new oak you will be disappointed with the distinctive, compelling styles of Chardonnay produced by Kalin.
