Tasting notes
(with 15% petit verdot; aged in 100% new French oak): Medium ruby. Currant, blackberry and licorice on the nose, lifted by a violet topnote. Juicy, spicy black fruit flavors are still youthfully tough but there's good sweetness here. The back end is a bit clenched, with substantial tannins coming across as a bit dry and medicinal, but solid supporting extract suggests that this will reward some patience.

The 2008 The Bully Cabernet Sauvignon contains 15% Petit Verdot and was aged in 100% new French oak. Fragrant aromas of sandalwood, exotic spices, violets, earthy minerals, and assorted black fruits are followed by a sweetly-fruited, plush, layered wine with outstanding volume and balance. This lengthy effort will benefit from another 2-3 years of cellaring and will deliver prime drinking through 2023. Gorman Winery, owned, operated, and staffed entirely by Chris Gorman, began in 2002 and currently produces 3000 cases out of a Woodinville warehouse. The new releases are uniformly outstanding. They include one dry and one dessert-styled white wine. Tel. (206) 351-0719; www.gormanwinery.com
