The 2005 The Cuthbert is also 100% Cabernet Sauvignon but was aged for 24 months in 100% new Hungarian oak. It is much more interesting aromatically with notes of toasty oak, pencil lead, spice box, blackberry, and black currant. This leads to a full-bodied, structured Cabernet that is currently lacking generosity. Five to six years of additional bottle age may round out this savory Cabernet. The Kay Brothers Amery Winery and Vineyards was founded in 1890 and continues to be 100% owned by the Kay family. For wine tourists looking for an out of the ordinary visit, the winery is a veritable museum of how things were done back in the “ol’ days.” Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; www.kaybrothersamerywines.com
