Tasting notes
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Del Rio Vineyard is stunning and singular this vintage and made entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep ruby-purple, it offers aromas of tapenade, dried herbs, graphite, mushroom powder and loads of floral aromas over a core of cassis and blue fruits. The full-bodied palate is slow to unfurl, but when it does—wow! Layered and concentrated, it's wrapped in a finely pixelated frame with a streak of minerality and great freshness to lift the very long finish.

Brought up in 90% new French oak and also from a vineyard in the Alexander Valley, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Del Rio Vineyard is another complex Cabernet Sauvignon from this team that sports a dense purple color, lots of black (and some blue) fruits, notes of green tobacco, gravelly earth, and lead pencil, medium to full body, and big, chewy, rustic tannins. It's another 2017 that will need bottle age and some wishful thinking on the tannins. There's solid mid-palate depth here, so there is hope, but it's not much fun to taste today.
