Tasting notes
A blend of 84% Syrah and 16% petite Sirah, the outstanding 2006 Vina Robles Syree has a deep purple color as well as pure, delineated aromatics of black fruits, smoke, charred earth and underbrush. With air, a sappy, fresh cut flower note comes through. It’s medium to full bodied on the palate with rich, dense fruit, a tight texture and some tannin on the finish. Drink this outstanding wine over the next 5 to 8 years.

(a blend of 84% syrah and 16% petite sirah; 15.8%) Inky ruby color. Ripe blackberry and plum aromas are complicated by notes of charred meat and violet. A very rich blend with oak-spiced dark fruit flavors and a slow-building vanilla quality that carries through the broad, sweet, very persistent finish. I'm sure that many will find this wine too oaky, but there seems to be ample fruit to stand up to it, at least for the time being.
The 2006 Syree, which may be even better than my score suggests. A blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Petite Sirah, the latter component gives the wine good definition and precision, while the Syrah provides exuberant blackberry fruitiness along with hints of spring flowers and charcoal. This dense, rich, outstanding blend should drink well for 5-7 years. Some noteworthy efforts have emerged from this producer, including this trio of 2006 reds. Tel. (805) 227-4812; Fax (805) 227-4816
