Lurid ruby. Expansive red berry, incense and vanilla scents carry a spicy edge of white pepper. Juicy, broad and seamless in texture, offering sweet black raspberry, cherry-vanilla and floral pastille flavors that tighten up steadily on the back half. Shows excellent depth of flavor as well as finesse, and finishes extremely long and supple, with velvety tannins shaping lingering red and dark berry notes.

I felt the ripeness, heat and oak more in the 2012 Tinto Reserva than in the Crianza from 2014. 2012 was a very dry year and this wine reached 15% alcohol, the same as the Crianza, but it feels warmer. The nose showed notes of incense, spices and noble woods over a core of ripe black fruit. The palate is lush and ripe, with round tannins and moderate acidity. It's incredible that with such ripeness and alcohol, the wine still feels quite balanced. In an XL way, but balanced. 60,000 bottles.
