2014 Kamen Cabernet Sauvignon Lava Block

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Lava Block emerges from the rockiest part of the vineyard. Flamboyant and exotic, as all of these wines are, the Lava Block also has a good bit of energy to play off the intensity of the fruit. With time in the glass, some of the more floral and mineral-driven notes start to emerge as the wine gains freshness.

The two vintages of the 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Lava Block, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Lava Block and 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Lava Block come from a site which used to be an old cow pasture. Both are outstanding wines – dense, full-bodied, classic Mark Herold style with floral notes intermixed with blackberry and cassis, espresso bean and graphite. The 2014 is sightly softer, while the 2013 is more structured and potentially longer-lived. Drink now-2025+.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Lava Block, here in its second vintage, is seriously impressive. Dense and packed to the core, the 2014 possesses tremendous power and textural intensity. Blackberry, espresso, licorice, spice and cedar are all amplified in this broad-shouldered mountain wine.
