Tasting notes
A new wine for the estate, the 2013 Torrin Shadow Canyon Vineyard is 100% Syrah, fermented with 80% whole clusters and aged in 50% new French oak, that comes from York Mountain, on the western, cooler edge of the Paso Robles AVA. It has a cool climate vibe in its olive, pepper, bay leaf, bacon fat and darker fruit-driven aromatics, and this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, beautiful concentration and fine, polished tannin. It's another "Do Not Miss" wine from winemaker Scott Hawley.

Inky purple. Ripe, mineral-tinged dark fruits, licorice, candied flowers and woodsmoke on the deeply perfumed nose. Chewy black currant and bitter cherry flavors unfold slowly, picking up a suggestion of cracked pepper along the way. A subtle touch of vanilla adds sweetness to the finish, which features youthfully chewy tannins and a resonating mineral note.
