The last vineyard to be harvested, which is home to a Sonoma seedling block still in its infancy, on a ledge of rock 100 ft above Santa Ynez river. 244 six packs made. Dark crimson. Their most backward wine apparently but the nose is already quite charming. There is certainly a firm backbone but this is packed with fruit yet finishes dry. Very impressive. More Nuits than Beaune. Pure pleasure and promise. And all that fruit has a mineral undertow. (JR)

The 2010 Pinot Noir Memorious shows great depth and textural volume. Expressive, perfumed notes are woven throughout the fruit, giving the wine much of its lift and aromatic complexity. There is a centeredness to the Memorious that is highly appealing. I love the purity and nuance of the aromas, flavors and textures. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. Evening Land is one of the most fascinating properties in Santa Barbara County. Located in the western corner of the Santa Rita Hills appellation, these vineyards are planted with tight spacing using California heritage clones exclusively. The wines I have tasted over the last few years have been very promising. Winemaker Sashi Moorman brought in the Evening Land Pinots before the crippling heat spikes of late September, but adds that luck played a big role in the overall quality of the fruit, as the heat spike turned out to be far lengthier than originally predicted.
