Tasting notes
The 2013 Campanaio is inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux, and represents a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in equal parts. Grapes are grown in limestone-rich soils and offer a great deal of precision and focus. The classic vintage has been especially kind to early-ripening varieties such as Merlot. Alessandro Cellai practices an extreme harvest in which each berry is selected by hand. The wine shows deep, dark concentration and is aged in oak for 12 months. This is a beautiful and memorable wine that will continue a slow evolution.

Podere Monastero Campanaio (Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot) is bold, dark and expressive, with plenty of textural depth and intensity. Today, the flavors are quite primary. It will be interesting to see if more complexity develops with further time in bottle. Sweet red plum, mint, cinnamon and French oak add shades of nuance on the open-knit, juicy finish.
